[24 Dec 2009|12:33am] nicci the week has been spent cleaning, messing up, baking cookies, visiting with my sister, cleaning up, messing up, binding zines, playing with the puppies, staying up with Paco who has been sick, binding more zines, freezing ass off, drowning in peanut butter cookies, why did we make so many?, freezing fingers off binding more zines, pondering handmade paper, walking through michaels talking about 'red balls' before we realized what we sounded like, and yet finding no freaking red balls, updating etsy, pondering new zines, and getting to know my computer (gifted by my mom when she got a new one). i just read about 60 friends entries on LJ and found that is my limit. at least 2 people are moving, and i have no idea where or why or when. these adverts on LJ are driving me nuts, but i can't bring myself to re-up my paid account, because it was this or flickr. i chose flickr! i've been thinking about painting something. i would probably tattoo something, but it's far too expensive. plus it hurts. we don't like hurty. apparently, i have a we problem this week. just go with it. i baked too many cookies. do not want. 5 comments|post comment

mail art calls [17 Dec 2009|03:09pm] nicci skullie pages - something wicked book Originally uploaded by nicciwashere i hosted a little wicked chunky page swap over on art42 and had only a few artists participate. i love small swaps. the big ones can get to feel like a chore when they take 2 hours to swap out, but i will always, always do the big ones for FAVs. speaking of which, FINE ART VALENTINES (7) 2010 is open for signup!. i'm hosting it @ art42. additional open projects include: Spiral Bound Zine #2 : Spiral Bound is a zine about self recording and exploration via text and image. Why do you journal? Why do you write? What form does your self expression take? Send in 3-5 index cards (3x5 inches) written or drawn, or journaled, with your answers, sample journal entries, or your thoughts on the necessity of expression, your favorite mediums, your methods, or your madness. Be creative and experimental. Send a journal entry. Carve some stamps. Play with a photocopier. Glue on some art or include a photograph. Self Portrait & ATCs Zine : create 3 ATCs, either shaped or the traditional 2.5x3.5 inch size (just be sure they fit individually into a clear plastic sleeve). Send them to me, and I will choose one or more to include in a mini zine to be included in returns, along with one ATC from another artist. You may use any sort of self representation you wish from an atc constructed of a photograph, an ATC constructed of an embellished photocopy, a hand drawing, a painting, a collage, a text portrait... anything! You can represent yourself as you are, yourself through your artist's filter, yourself as a horror movie actor, yourself as another artist, or yourself in the vision of another artist (yourself via Frida Kahlo's style? Perhaps yourself imposed in a Dali painting?) Type a want ad, type a haiku. Put it on an ATC. Layered Cupcakes, Skellies, Crows, & Poison ATCs : For this trade, you will trade between 3 and 6 ATCs on this theme for the same number in return. You can either combine all or multiple elements of these cards, or simply go with a single one on each of your cards. This is a hand drawn or painted swap, so please be sure to use your own work, not stickers or images from other places. Please use layers of paper and paint, or mixed media of your choice. Cards should fit into a plastic sleeve. Note: You may also do El Dia De Los Muertos cards for this swap! It's never too late in the year for creepy Halloween or El Dia imagery! 25 Images, 25 Days : For this project, you will make 25 ATCs over the course of 25 days (or a monthish). You can make them in batches, if you wish, or one every day for the period of time. It's all up to you. You may use traditional photographs cut down, collaged, or in pieces. You may use digital collage, photographs, etc (but they MUST be high quality if you use digital, see below). You may also paint, or draw or collage your ATCs. You do not HAVE to use photos in or on your ATCs if you'd rather not. See DanEldon.org for inspiration. You may, of course, hand alter anything you make with markers, gel pens, sewing, etc. 4x4 Heart Shaped Chunky Pages : For this swap, you'll make and send in between 3 and 6 chunky book pages, depending on what you feel like doing! If we get a full signup list, please feel free to send in 8. The theme is open to interpretation, though the pages themselves must be heart shaped. You can embellish them as you wish, and use mediums of your choice. Your hearts should be 4 inches in one dimension and at least 2.5 in the other. So you can choose to make 4 inch wide and 4 inch tall hearts, or long and skinny hearts as you desire. I cut 4x4 squares, then drew in the biggest hearts I could with pencil, and cut them out from there. (the 4x4 inch pieces pictured here were made with collage elements, gesso, acrylic paint, gel medium -- maaaany laters -- and gel pen.) post comment

[17 Dec 2009|10:39am] words_fail I'm turning 30 tomorrow! I'm excited for the next few days: Today: Lunch with Steve & my mom at 1pm Massage with Michelle at 4pm Visit with Joanna at 6pm Friday: My birthday! Dinner at Veg Out, a new vegan restaurant in London Saturday: Rum & Eggnog at Jim's house. Still need to find a vegan variation! Legends Tavern for drinks with friends Next week: Christmas! Steve got me an iPod touch & I can't wait to use it! Visits with Candy, Michelle, Lisa and others Dinner with Steve & our moms, paid for by Steve's work for the awesome job he's been doing in Africa. I cut off most of my hair the other day! I went to my friend Cheryl, who is amazing and was able to disguise all the parts I had pulled out.
